Feeding and Swallowing

Feeding and swallowing difficulties can impact an individual in any phase of life, from newborn to geriatric. Feeding disorders can be problems with suckling/sucking, eating from a spoon, chewing, or drinking from a cup. Swallowing disorders, or dysphagia, are difficulties with moving food or liquid from the mouth, throat or esophagus to the stomach. Both feeding and swallowing disorders/dysphagia fall under the scope of practice of the Speech-Language Pathologist.
